Das tropische Klima auf Dominica wird durch die aus Nordosten aufkommenden Winde abgeschwächt. In der Hurrikan-Saison, zwischen Mai und November kommt es auf Dominica öfter zu schweren Regenfällen.
Auf Dominica wird, wie auf allen anderen karibischen Inseln auch, Rum hergestellt. Eine landestypische Speise ist die Calalou-Suppe, die mit Kokosmilch und Blättern der Dasheen-Pflanze zubereitet wird. Die Küche ist sehr vielfältig und wird von den unterschiedlichsten Esskulturen vieler Länder geprägt.
Zu den Sehenswürdigkeiten Dominicas gehört der Nationalpark Morne Trois Pitons, der von einer abwechslungsreichen Landschaft geprägt wird und seit 1997 in der Liste des UNESCO-Weltnaturerbes steht. In dem Park befinden sich der Vulkan Morne Trois Pitons, das Tal der Hoffnungslosigkeit, heiße Quellen, ein kochender See sowie eine schier unglaubliche Artenvielfalt an Pflanzen und Tieren. Zu den weiteren Sehenswürdigkeiten auf Dominica gehören die 1773 erbaute Zuckermühle, die heute noch in Betrieb ist sowie das Fort Young in Roseau aus dem 18. Jahrhundert, das zu einem der besten Hotels der Insel umgebaut wurde.
